Governor's Tourism Summit This year's summit is being held in Lake Charles Jan. 22 - 24, at L'Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort. Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne will unveil the 2013 Louisiana Tour Guide along with LOT's spring marketing campaign. Roger Dow, president/CEO of U.S. Travel Association, will bring a national and international perspective to the conference. Register before Jan. 15 to save $100.

Travel Weekly - The travel industry is poised for a good year in 2013. The industry's engines aren't firing perfectly on all cylinders just yet, but they are purring well enough to meet demand, maybe exceed expectations and make a profit. Unfortunately, the major players can only go so far to make it happen. But if 2013 turns out to be a bummer for travel, it very likely won't be the industry's fault, because travel companies have spent the better part of the recession taking care of business.

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is rescheduling the Louisiana Soundtrack Experience Series in Shreveport. Originally slated for Jan. 19, the concert, film screening and panel discussion will take place Feb. 23. The event, From Elvis to Hank to Johnny: Celebrating 65 years of the Louisiana Hayride, will be held at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. USA Today - There are few certainties when it comes to travel. But in this new year, travelers can count on one thing-they'll have to spend more money if they want to fly. Airlines had a profitable 2012, and industry analysts say they'll probably have an even better 2013 if they keep raising fares, charging more fees and cutting back on the number of flights. That may push some travelers to their cars. If it does, they will not see record high gasoline prices at the pump for the first time in two years.

Wildlife recreation in Louisiana   Old Arabi Historic District wins nation's "Prettiest Painted Places" competition
USA Today - Old Arabi Historic District in St. Bernard Parish has been named one of the 12 "Prettiest Painted Places in America" in a national competition sponsored by the Paint Quality Institute. The winners, one large and one small town or district in each of six U.S. regions, were announced by the institute, whose mission is to educate the public about quality paints and coatings. Old Arabi was judged the prettiest painted small town in the south central region.

Hotel Online - International Visitors spent an estimated $13.9 billion on travel and tourism-related activities within the U.S. during October 2012, a 6 percent increase over October 2011.

Monroe News Star - The 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife Associated Recreation Final National Report released last week showed more than 90 million U.S. residents 16 and older participated in some form of wildlife-related recreation in 2011, a 3 percent increase over 2006.
