Lt. Governor's Tourism Summit
Summit is the state's top tourism educational event and an exceptional way to network and share ideas with your peers in the industry and gain insight from nationally acclaimed speakers. This year's summit will be held in Lake Charles Jan. 22 - 24 at L'Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort. Lt. Governor Dardenne will unveil the 2013 Louisiana Tour Guide along with LOT's new marketing campaign for spring. Roger Dow, president/CEO of U.S. Travel Association, will bring a national and international perspective to the conference. Register before Jan. 15 to save $100.

Ruston, LA
Ruston Cited as Great Retirement Destination
Where to Retire magazine's January/February 2013 issue touts Ruston as a top retirement destination. In a seven-page piece, editor Mary Lu Abbott praises Ruston's small town friendliness, its lively arts community, numerous outdoor recreation opportunities and the city's low cost of living. "People just can't seem to get Ruston out of their minds after a first visit," Abbott wrote. Where to Retire circulates nationally, and its January/February is available now.

The Grammy Awards
Only in Louisiana Grammy Event
The Office of Lt. Governor and the Louisiana Office of Tourism will honor Louisiana's eight Grammy nominees with the "Only in Louisiana" brunch in Los Angeles on the eve of the Grammy Awards. Co-hosts Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and Kix Brooks formerly of Brooks and Dunn along with previous Grammy winners from Louisiana will welcome guests to the Los Angeles Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Grammy Event will target the travel/music media. LOT is offering sponsorship and participation opportunities for "Only in Louisiana" starting at $1,000. Cost will include one attendance pass, signage at the event, an opportunity to include an item in the gift bag, recognition during the celebration ceremony and any media leads from participating journalists. New Orleans French Quarter
New Orleans Tops List as America's Favorite City
According to Travel + Leisure visitors, New Orleans tops the list as America's overall Favorite City, as well as the Top City for: Cafes, Music Scene, Girlfriends' Getaways, Antique Stores, Local Pride, Happy Hour, People-Watching, Wild Weekends, Singles Scene, Street Performers, Flea Market and New Year's Eve. Results were posted in the November 2012 issue.

STS Top 20
STS Top 20 Events Nominations for Next Summer Due Jan. 4
Each year, the best events across the southeast compete to receive the prestigious Top 20 Events designation. Through a nomination process, Southeast Tourism Society chooses the top 20 events for each month and publishes its list of winners quarterly. The Top 20 Events publication is sent to more than 1,600 newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations, AAA publications and other media outlets. Nominations are accepted from STS members and non-member organizations, submissions are accepted from individuals, attendees and/or event organizers. The deadline to nominate events that occur in July, August and September 2013 is Jan. 4.
